As the New York Giants drive towards their playoff aspirations, a spotlight has landed on second-year wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, who is proving to be a pivotal asset for the team. Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 185 pounds, Hyatt's efforts to bulk up for the rigors of an NFL season are not going unnoticed.
Hyatt's commitment to his physical development is underscored by his unique approach to gaining weight. Recognizing his high metabolism, he has redoubled efforts, incorporating Uncrustables—frozen, individually wrapped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches—into his diet. "It's definitely hard for myself to gain weight. Some guys, it's easier for them to gain weight or gain muscle. For myself, it's harder. I burn a lot of calories quick. I'm just one of those guys that's got to just keep eating," Hyatt explained.
The young receiver's focus on continuous eating is intentional. "PB&J's was one of my biggest things, because you want to eat your full meal. You don't want to eat a little bit and drink a protein shake. Then you're not really getting anything. So, for myself, finishing, completing your full meals, and then, an hour later or 30 minutes later, that's when you put in an Uncrustables or a PB&J or a little protein shake," Hyatt elaborated.
Hyatt's journey began as a third-round pick out of Tennessee, and he has since made significant strides on the field. One of his standout moments came in Week 2 of the 2023 season, with a crucial 58-yard reception that was pivotal in the Giants' narrow three-point victory over the Cardinals. His performance continued to impress throughout the season. Notably, in Week 7, Hyatt recorded two catches for 75 yards in New York's 14-7 win over the Commanders.
However, it was in Week 12 that Hyatt cemented his status as a key player for the Giants. In this game, he notched his first 100-yard receiving game in the NFL, playing an essential role in the Giants' tight victory over the Patriots. This milestone is a testament to Hyatt's growth and persistence.
Beyond his physical and on-field achievements, Hyatt's aspirations remain high. "For me, I always set high expectations. Just looking at our team, looking at what we got—for goals, I just want a team goal. We have a playoff team. That's what we want to do. That's our focus and we're gonna get there," he said, reflecting the collective ambition within the Giants' locker room.
Hyatt's dedication, both in terms of physical conditioning and his performances on the field, encapsulates the spirit of a player who is not just participating but striving to make a significant impact. His efforts, combined with his potential, signal a promising future for a young receiver eager to help lead his team to greater heights.
As the season progresses, the Giants will undoubtedly look to Hyatt to continue delivering in crucial moments. His unique dietary regimen and relentless determination highlight a player willing to go the extra mile for success. With his eyes set firmly on the playoffs, Hyatt's journey is one to watch as he continues to evolve into a vital component of the New York Giants' quest for glory.
